Arbitration & ADRAt the outset of April, Diégo Noesen had the opportunity to discuss arbitration and alternative dispute resolution over a three-day conference in Lubumbashi, DR Congo. This event was part of a collaboration between the Dutch-speaking Brussels Bar (Balie Brussel) and the local Haut-Katanga Bar.

The conference featured presentations from local colleagues, professors, magistrates, and members of the Belgian delegation, including Dean Bernard Derveaux, former Dean Dirk Van Gerven, colleague Michel Segers, and Professor Vincent Sagaert. They explored various topics such as the structure of the legal profession, corporate and security laws, and the implications of generative AI on our practices. Diégo found the Q&A sessions particularly engaging, enjoying the dynamic interactions with the audience.

The rest of the week was equally packed with insightful visits to the palace of justice, local companies, law firms, universities, and meetings with public authorities, accompanied by the Belgian Vice-Consul in Lubumbashi, Alexandre C.E. Gianasso.

Special acknowledgments go to the presidents of the respective Bars, Bernard Derveaux and Jean-Paul Kitenge, for their roles in organizing this fruitful exchange.
