Flip wrote an essay on AI in legal practice. Written in Dutch, the book is based on and further elaborates Flip's original article on the ‘Responsible use of AI in arbitration’, which appeared in b-Arbitra, a specialised journal on arbitration, in summer 2024.
Flip's book is currently being translated into French and English. We expect these to be available on the market in June 2025.
In essence (a comment from the publisher (LeA Uitgevers)):
Artificial Intelligence is increasingly making its mark on legal practice in the broadest sense. From document analysis to decision-making, its possibilities seem boundless. But what does this mean for in-house lawyers, private practitioners, judges, and arbitrators? How do we find the right balance between technological innovation and respect for fundamental legal principles?
This essay is an exploration — a journey of thought aimed at understanding the impact of AI on legal practice. With a critical and open mind, Flip Petillion examines not only the opportunities but also the risks and uncertainties. His aim is not to prescribe solutions — though he offers numerous suggestions — but rather to maintain awareness of what responsible use of AI in legal services truly entails.
